Sunny Prospect and Peggy's Cove

Peggy's Cove

A new day and another wonderful reunion with a friend from college. Denise studied photography with me at NSCC and was a huge support. We'd work on projects together and go on pleasure shoots just to practice our skills. We decided to visit Peggy's Cove and Prospect Bay (she lives in that area).

The very first time I visited Nova Scotia (many, many years ago) for a conference in Halifax, we were asked if there was anything we particularly wanted to see. Not understanding the geography, I said, Peggy's Cove. It was quite late, but our host didn't bat an eyelid and instructed her driver to go directly there! After nearly an hour of driving we arrived to witness complete darkness except for the eerie green glow from the lighthouse. (The light is red now but back then it was green). I wondered why the driver looked amused when told to drive there. 1) he was paid hourly. 2) he probably thought, Tourists! "It'll be pitch black when we get there and they won't see a thing!"

Denise and I had blue skies and bright sunshine. The marvelous thing about being with another photographer, is that they do not mind how many times you stop to take a photo! I loved being with Denise. Conversation was easy, our pace and rhythm seem synced. We wandered around snapping images and stopped at a local coffee bar for a latte and a snack. Sitting on the patio in the sunshine, me with my lemon lavender cookie, and her with a cinnamon bun, we laughed and reminisced about old times.

On our way out of the cove, we stopped by Bubba Gift Shop. Most of the day was filled with laughter as you can see from these two pictures.

Propect Bay

I've always loved the little community of Prospect Bay. It's off the beat and track and yet holds all the charm you see at the busier locations. We parked the car and walked around, both of us busily snapping photos and enjoying the fresh ocean air.

The day slipped away very quickly. It was time to head home for supper. Jeff and Denise served up a delectable home cooked dinner, much appreciated after traveling on the road and eating in restaurants for the past several days. Their young grandson E. is a delight and had grown into an active little boy since I last visited him four years earlier.

As I pulled out of the driveway, I had a little weep. It had been a perfect day and who knows when I'll see them again? Thanks Denise, Jeff, and E. for welcoming me into your home. They say that, true friends won't grow apart even if they don't talk everyday, that's how I feel about Denise. Until we meet again.
