Thanksgiving was upon us and my heart overflowed with gratitude. I'd seen so much of this wonderful country in a short period of time. I'd received incredible hospitality along the way, and now, here I was in Vancouver spending this special holiday with my son and his wife. Rhys and Jennifer always seem to have room at their table for one more and this year, they had widened the circle to include many of their friends, as well as my husband Gene and me. We all gathered and enjoyed a remarkable feast of potluck dishes. Lots of laughter and good conversation ensued and the evening passed too quickly. This was our last night in Vancouver. It was a bittersweet farewell, as I was looking forward to visiting Vancouver Island but I was sad to say goodbye to my son Rhys and daughter-in-law Jennifer. I gave Rhys a lingering hug before heading back, one last time, to our Airbnb.
Back across town, I paused on the steps of the house, the sun was setting, the mountains across the valley were partially obscured by low lying clouds. Tomorrow, the last leg of my cross-country adventure would commence.
